For a marriage to be strong and vibrant, couples need to demonstrate caring affection for each other. It can be as simple as a hug, a kiss, a touch, a note on the table or in a suite case, or a smile from across the room. During courting and when first married such simple acts draw and bond couples together. We know that we are special!
With time such acts can become forgotten in the hassle of kids, jobs and all the distractions of everyday life. Or they may become sterile acts without the emotional connection of earlier years. These couples often start to realize that something is missing. The intensity of their relationship is lower.
For a Christian couple caring with affection is an act of stewardship. It is the abundance of Christ’s love that we share with our spouse. This unconditional love and affection is exemplified by the love of Christ as He washed the feet of His disciples. It is a love that says I can love you first. It is not conditioned on first receiving love.
That same love makes us seek out and touch our spouse as we come home. It is the telephone call to just see how the day is going. It is a planned date or a spontaneous walk. It is the intensity and focus of a smile from across the busy room.
To become more caring with affection is a decision you can make.
